Having had the immense privilege of photographing Operation Surf in Central California, it only seemed right to share their ongoing mission with you. The entire team of people who make up this operation prove the theory that "love is a verb."

Hundreds of locals show up at the airport to give an enthusiastic welcome and heartfelt thank you to the Operation Surf attendees. In most cases, the Woulded Warriors are coming directly from rehabilitation centers in America, the UK or Canada.

Beginning with the United States Marine Corp's official "welcome," the participants hear various speakers and well wishers before the traditional Chumash chants for success and safety. (below)

Having been a professional surfer himself, Van knows the right people who are glad to show up year after year to instruct these attendees on the fine art of surfing.

One surfer by the name of Van Curaza started it all around 20 years ago. With over four decades worth of surfing experience and a deep care for those who struggle, Van has made it his lifetime mission to help as many at-risk youth and wounded warriors as possible by teaching them the healing power of the ocean and a surfboard.

A heartfelt Thank You to Van and all the folks who help make Operation Surf the critical mission that it is...changing one life at a time.
