Through the lens, a hidden world of delicate beauty takes flight.
A little-known sanctuary sits nestled in Florida's beautiful Coconut Grove. Known simply as "Butterfly World," it's a hidden gem of small beginnings that bloom into fantastical creations.

Above, a morpho didius splays its wings, revealing an iridescent blue palette. Below, it's easy to see how caligo atreus or "Owl Butterfly" gets its name. The pattern on the lower wings mimic the appearance of an owl's eye to deter predators.

Can anyone identify this beautiful specimen perched precariously on the lush flora?

For a hidden treasure that doesn't have the hype of Orlando's Disneyland, Butterfly World possesses a surprising amount of enchantment and tranquility. It's the perfect place to be if you want to escape from the din of the outside world and enjoy a serene walk through a verdant oasis as Debussy's Clair de Lune gently tickles the senses in the background.

Butterflies aren't the only attraction, either. Beautiful, bright macaws and other such tropical birds can be found in a separate section of the park. Another wing also features a bug zoo and insectarium for those who have a keen interest in entomology (arachnophobes, beware!)

Between you and I, Butterfly World is and always will be a treasured, hidden refuge from the cares of the world. It doesn't get the attention it deserves, but that can be a blessing in disguise. While still popular with families and crowds in general, there's a keen contrast between a bustling theme park with mile-long lines, and the Eden-like paradise tucked away in Coconut Grove. When you step inside, you almost can't believe you're still in a city. It's a breath-taking island in an ocean of concrete, a natural, otherworldly haven for the tinier citizens of our planet.
Go and visit, and when you do, tread carefully; tread with loving respect.
